Assessment is used to detect students who are underachieving so that prompt remedies can be proffered.

Did you set targets for them in the first place? 😎
Oftentimes when students are informed of their comparative peer underachievement at the start of a unit they tend to work harder to meet their set target by the end of the unit. Try it and see.
